Could the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas drive up oil prices and impact your payment at the pump?
A big factor into some of the rising gas prices over the past year has had correlation to Russia's war in Ukraine.
So, would this war do the same? Drivers think it might.
"Seems like any time we're seeing any type of conflict overseas, those seem to impact gas prices, usually in a negative way," driver Adam Moores said.
Jim Garrity from AAA East Central says gas is down 9 cents from last week,
He doubts it will impact fuel for this reason:
"Unlike Russia, for example, compared to last year when we saw prices really going up, Israel and Palestine are not significant oil producers. So, you don’t have as much of an impact on the price of crude oil,” Garrity said.
But Garrity says anything can happen.
"All eyes on what’s going to happen with the United States economy the world economy,” he said. “Theres a lot of different things that go into it. Thats why it’s so hard to project outward, let alone days ahead."
Ohio Senator JD Vance says a close eye must be kept on this situation as he worries this war will become a broader topic.
"If it does, you're going to see a lot of hardship in our country, a lot of skyrocketing energy prices,” Vance said. “People can’t afford to heat their homes or put gas in their car. Gas is already too expensive, it’s going to get worse if it escalates.”
And with gas prices already hitting Americans in the pocket, there are ways you can save money on fuel in the long run:
"Slow down, reduce the load in your vehicle, make sure your vehicle is well maintained," Garrity said.
