Mozambique Conflict Leaves 300000 Destitute | Persecution - International Christian Concern

09/25/2020 Mozambique (International Christian Concern) – The ongoing conflict in Northern Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado region has left more than 300,000 people displaced. According to the World Food Program these 300,000 people are in dire need of food, water and shelter. The terror group causing all of these problems is locally known as al-Shabab, but has no link to the Somali group of the same name. They are very likely affiliated with ISIS however, who has claimed some of the attacks and who has a group based out of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

These insurgents were able to take control of the city of Mocimboa da Praia .in Cabo Delgado for nearly six full weeks. Mocimboa da Praia is an important port city in the countries oil rich northern region. With a massive 60-billion-dollar oil deal underway, some have claimed that this group is only trying to get money and power from the deal. However, with the new Islamic State Central African Province claiming the attacks, it is very likely that this conflict could start to become much more religious in nature.

So far attacks on Christians has been relatively small, but that will all change if the conflict continues. If ISCAP is allowed to take full control of the area, the Church in Mozambique may start to come under great attack. Please pray for this conflict to end quickly and for the Church in Mozambique to remain safe and strong.
