Re “G.O.P. Scrutinizes Son as Father Rises in Polls” (news article, March 6):

The Republicans are gearing up to make the issue of Hunter and Joe Biden’s alleged corruption in Ukraine the equivalent of Hillary Clinton’s emails. The media engaged in the email issue for far too long, and it dogged her throughout the election. Joe Biden needs to get out in front of this Republican tactic now and put it to bed before it distracts from, if not consumes, his campaign.

The Republican Senate is undertaking an investigation into the Bidens. We should expect the “results” of these efforts to be strategically dropped into the election cycle at pivotal moments. Joe Biden needs to defuse this shameful Republican tactic by telling the American public to expect this, to see it for what it is and to otherwise ignore it. And he needs to do it now. Then he, too, should ignore it and move on to the important messages of his campaign.

Re “Kushner to Exit Start-Up That Pursued Tax Break” (news article, March 6):

Now that Joe Biden is his probable opponent, President Trump and his campaign have ramped up their threat to investigate Hunter Biden. Inexplicably, Mr. Trump has pretty much gotten a free pass on the activities of his own family. It’s time for that to end.

The Democrats need to pound hard and relentlessly on such things as Jared Kushner’s participation in and windfall from a start-up that capitalized on a provision in the 2017 tax law. Also worthy of investigation is the last-minute financial lifeline extended to his family real estate firm from Qatar. Very fishy.

Then there’s Ivanka. How and why did she get those valuable trademarks from China? Also, can you imagine the uproar if Bill Clinton or Barack Obama had put their child into a White House job of inestimable access and personal power?

Finally, will anyone track the activities of Don Jr. and Eric Trump as they roam the world on our dime?

Re “Observation, Not Participation” (Inside The Times, March 8):

Peter Baker, chief White House correspondent for The New York Times, and other Times journalists speak eloquently about the need for political impartiality, objectivity and trust in their professional lives. But to not vote, like Mr. Baker, may be the height of irresponsibility.

Even journalists live with the consequences of our political choices. Every vote counts!

To the Editor:

I read with interest your March 4 obituary of Rafael Cancel Miranda, the last of the assailants who shot up the U.S. Capitol’s House chamber in 1954 in the name of Puerto Rican independence (“Rafael Cancel Miranda, Gunman in 1954 Attack on Congress, Dies at 89”).

I found it curious, however, that while the obituary named Mr. Cancel Miranda’s accomplices and mentioned the fact that five members of Congress were struck by the shooters’ bullets, those congressmen weren’t named.

They were Alvin Bentley (Republican of Michigan); Ben F. Jensen (Republican of Iowa); George Hyde Fallon (Democrat of Maryland); Kenneth A. Roberts (Democrat of Alabama), and one of my predecessors in representing Memphis, Clifford Davis (Democrat of Tennessee).

In chronicling Mr. Cancel Miranda’s role in this historic event, not mentioning his victims seems a significant omission.
