The Empire State won’t follow Broadway’s lead in deciding when to ease restrictions to stem the spread of the coronavirus, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.
During his daily briefing, Cuomo rejected the idea that “non-essential” businesses would be up and running by June 7, in keeping with plans announced earlier in the day by the Broadway League.
“I wouldn’t use what Broadway thinks as a barometer of anything unless they’re in the public health business and have better models,” he said.
“Look, all of these projections basically turned out to be wrong, right?”
Broadway League president Charlotte St. Martin said the planned reopening of theaters was being pushed back from the week of April 13 to June 7, based on Cuomo’s previously issued directives and guidance from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
