SHAWANO, WI – Student pickup on Tuesday at Hillcrest Primary School did not work as planned and has caused the administration to make some quick adjustments for Wednesday.
Principal Troy Edwards apologized to the parents Tuesday night.
“It did not work as planned. I am very sorry for the frustration it caused.”
The plan was for vehicles to drive to the backside of the school and pick up their kids in a social distancing format. Parents were to remain in their vehicle and show a staff member their child’s ID number which would be matched and that child would be escorted to the vehicle.
Parents attempted to enter the school parking lot from multiple directions, causing a delay and a large backup on Waukechon Street. Vehicles waited for close to an hour in line and some parents got out of their vehicles and walked to pick up their kids.
Frustrations were expressed on social media, requesting a change be made.
“We will be going back to the way we dismissed school last year,” Edwards said in an email to parents.
The new plan will request that vehicles only enter from the driveway off of Engel Drive and proceed through the parking lot to the backside of the school where they will park, get out of their vehicle and pick up their kids.
Parents will be asked to come to their appropriate playground gate to make the process go quicker.
Students will be dismissed at 3:20 by grade level. Masks are still encouraged to be worn.
Parents will then proceeded out of the driveway that leads to Waukechon Street.
