“We Need to Talk”: The featured book for Conflict Resolution Month - Estes Park Trail-Gazette

Each October, the state of Colorado chooses a book to be featured as part of Conflict Resolution Month. This year, readers throughout Colorado will be discussing “We Need to Talk: how to have conversations that matter” by award-winning author Celeste Headlee.

Recent studies have revealed that Americans find themselves feeling less connected and more divided. While political disagreements are part of the problem, Headlee believes there is also another factor at work: the erosion of our conversational skills as a society. She outlines how we can improve these “conversations that matter”, whether it’s with our kids or teachers, our co-workers, or the loved ones in our lives.

Headlee is a radio journalist and popular speaker whose TED Talk has had over 10 million views on YouTube.

While supplies last, readers can receive a complimentary copy of “We Need to Talk”, simply by signing up for any of the upcoming Conflict Resolution Month programs. Visit estesvalleylibrary.org to see the full roster of programs, with detailed descriptions and registration links.

“We Need to Talk”, as well as October’s companion book, “Nonviolent Communication” are also now available in a Book Club Bag format with 12 copies, convenient for small-group discussion.

The TED Talk video featuring author Celeste Headlee is available to watch on YouTube, also linked at estesvalleylibrary.org on the Conflict Resolution Month information and sign-up page. Conflict Resolution Month is sponsored locally by the Estes Valley Restorative Justice Partnership and the Estes Valley Library.
