Walz to announce sweeping education plan amid ongoing pandemic - KSTP

As the governor and education leaders introduce this plan Monday, some of the state’s youngest learners will be in their second week back at school.

Monday, Minnesotans could learn more about how all students will eventually make it back to school in person.

The governor's office says it will address the immediate impact the pandemic has had on students.

A release from the governor's office states they're working on building "a world-class education system that prepares every student for success."

After a year of more failing grades than normal, and a tough year on student and teacher mental health, some say this is a step in the right direction.

“School is important, distance learning though is hard … we have to give grace to the students that are struggling right now and know that they're going to be OK,” Robyn Asher, life science teacher at Como Park High School—which is part of St. Paul Public Schools—said.

Asher said while some students are struggling more with distance learning, she knows many are learning life lessons they would not have learned in school.

Even so, Gov. Tim Walz has said all along he wants kids back in school because that is where they learn best.

The governor's announcement is set for 2 p.m.
