Baker To Release Plan For Reopening Massachusetts Economy - wgbh.org

Gov. Charlie Baker will release his program Monday for how Massacushetts' economy will reopen, revealing which workers can head back to their places of employment and when.

The plan will address how to safely reopen businesses in a four-phase process.

Baker has said his four-step plan will allow businesses with minimal face-to-face public interaction to reopen first, and he hopes employers will maximize work-from-home conditions for as long as possible.

The governor is also expected to specify which public health metrics — like new infections or hospitalizations — he'll use to guide the transition from phase one to phases two and three. Baker has said those standards will be strict.

Baker's statewide stay-at-home advisory and closure of nonessential businesses due to the coronavirus pandemic have been in effect since March 24 and are scheduled to expire Monday. As of May 15, the state had more than 83,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and a death toll of nearly 5,600, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
