After getting approval earlier this week from the Florida Supreme Court to move its in-person exams to an online format due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Florida Board of Bar Examiners has another change to announce: The online exams will take place Aug. 19, rather than Aug. 18.
In a press release Friday, the board cited the fact that Aug. 18 is the date of Florida’s primary election.
“It is important that every citizen in Florida be assured that they are able to vote in the upcoming primary election, whether by mail, early voting, or in person,” said David Reeves, chair of the Florida Board of Bar Examiners, in the press release. “With the administration of the examination in an online format, we are able to shift the date without impacting the grading schedule.”
The board had originally planned to hold exams July 28 and 29 in Tampa and Orlando. But lawyers, professors, students and politicians, worried at the prospect of test-takers gathering in confined spaces for hours on end amid a pandemic, pushed for an alternative format.
Further information about the exams is available at floridabarexam.org.
