On July 20, Seton Hall University released its confirmed restart plan for the 2020-21 academic year. The comprehensive plan details Seton Hall's approach to instruction and campus life while seeking to ensure the highest levels of health and safety throughout the University community.
It is the product of months of contingency planning, multivariate modeling, discussion, review and updating by more than 140 members of the Seton Hall community. Now confirmed by the State of New Jersey, the plan was designed to be inherently flexible and accommodate potential emerging scenarios.
"Through their work on multiple committees, these great minds developed a robust and thoughtful restart plan that addresses all aspects of the University experience," said Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D., president of Seton Hall University. "The University's commitment to the spiritual, mental and physical health of students, faculty, clergy, staff and administrators remains absolute."
As Seton Hall has done since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the University has incorporated the latest public health data and expert guidance into its preparations. The restart plan outlines modifications to academic programs and student life and includes protocols for safe classroom and working environments, among other improvements and enhancements.
The plan address steps the University is taking several key areas, including:
- General Safeguarding
- Screening, Testing, and Contact Tracing Protocols
- Instruction
- On-Campus Residential Housing
- Computer Labs/Libraries
- Research
- Student Services
- Transportation
- On-Campus Dining
- Study Abroad and International Travel
- Athletics
"Each of us has a personal responsibility to protect the health and safety of our entire community," said Katia Passerini, Ph.D., Provost and Executive Vice President. "Our commitment is expressed through the Seton Hall Pledge — our social contract to care for one another by minimizing exposure to COVID-19."
Seton Hall's timeline for the fall semester includes beginning classes on Monday, August 24 and finishing class instruction three months later on Tuesday, November 24. Review sessions, reading days and final exams will be administered remotely after Thanksgiving.
