Developers plan new project at Lake Highlands Town Center - The Dallas Morning News

Developers of Dallas' Lake Highlands Town Center project are working on plans for another apartment community.

The 70-acre mixed-use redevelopment at Walnut Hill Lane and Skillman Street has been under construction for more than a decade. Developers have already built two apartment communities, a shopping center and townhomes in the project, which is served by a DART commuter rail station.

Now, Austin-based Cypress Real Estate Advisors is seeking city approvals for another rental community.

The 424 apartments would be built in three- and four-story buildings just north of Walnut Hill.

The 441,700 square foot project would be the first construction in that area and would be adjacent to the DART rail station, according to plans filed with the city. Five buildings would be constructed in the rental project, which would be just west of the DART station.

The planned apartment community is north of The Shops at Lake Highlands Town Center retail center, which First Washington Realty has owned since last year.

The 63,209-square-foot shopping center in northeast Dallas is anchored by a Sprouts grocery store that opened in 2017.

Developers broke ground for Lake Highlands Town Center in 2007. Hundreds of aging apartments were demolished for the development on White Rock Creek.

But the redevelopment was delayed during the Great Recession. The first phase – a 200-unit apartment project – opened in 2015.
