Letter: Media works to keep us in conflict - Chico Enterprise-Record

Someone recently asked why the media comes up short and is so repetitive.. Only a few huge corporations own most media. They sit on each other’s boards of directors. Their interests are the only ones allowed to be broadcast or printed.

Since ownership and cross-ownership creates agreement about what the public gets to know, we are left with very poor news coverage. An example is CNN,  MSNBC and Fox. They seem to battle for different interests, but in the end they all support war, etc, especially since these corporations also have investments in the war industry. They have public relations firms or offices that compose stories (hence the repetitive nature) that our so-called reporters actually read to us (not investigate), that promote certain special interests (propaganda). Our CIA is heavily involved, a little known fact. So the news we get is repetitive, designed to keep us in conflict, with the world and each other, and they run to the bank with their massive profits.

This mass produced propaganda persuades us that corporate interests are our own interests and that supporting the war machine is patriotic, while our own people are losing their businesses, going hungry and homeless, and can’t afford health care. Our economy has been based on military spending so there are billions – to trillions of taxpayer dollars available for war, and the misery it entails, and plenty for massive corporate bailouts and subsidies, while the rest of us suffer and do without.
