Conflict resolution is not just for warring armies, political parties or couples. Sonoma’s Georgia Kelly, founder of the Praxis Peace Institute, is a trained conflict resolution counselor who has long taught workshops in communication and conflict transformation for non-profit organizations, churches, even the Esalen Institute in Big Sur.
Kelly is presenting a three-hour workshop on Communication and Conflict Transformation on Friday, July 30, via Zoom, open to anyone interested in refining their conflict resolution skills and strategies. Topics such as how to develop ground rules that establish a communication-friendly environment, how to set boundaries to protect emotional well-being, dealing with assumptions and projections, active listening and ethics and respect, among other subjects.
“In communication and conflicts there is no one size fits all,” said Kelly in the statement announcing the workshop, “which is why this workshop does not teach one or two specific methods but, instead, offers some of the most effective guidelines and ground rules from different systems of communication, conflict management, and negotiation — ones that make communication easier and conflict situations more manageable and transformable.”
The three-hour workshop begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 30, with a short break at 2:30. Cost is $60 for Praxis members, $70 for non-members. To register and receive the Zoom link, visit praxispeace.org/event_registration.
Coming in August, Praxis will present a conversation with Dr. Helen Caldicott, at one time a leader in the anti-nuclear weapons movement. In the 1970s, she gained prominence in Australia, New Zealand, and North America, speaking on the health hazards of radiation from the perspective of pediatrics.
