Members of the Cumberland Valley School District School Board met Monday night to discuss reopening plans for the upcoming academic year.
Officials explained the plan while parents and other community members shared their concerns for reopening during a time of public comment. The questions ranged from attendance and bus ride policies to athletics and extracurricular activities.
In addition to a PowerPoint presentation, officials discussed the district’s “Return to School Safely Plan.”
According to the plan, the district is aiming for a “scaffolded reopening,” meaning some students will learn in-person while others at a distance. The “anticipated launch date for in-person learning” is Aug. 25, according to the plan.
As for face coverings, the plan says the district will comply with the face-covering requirements issued by the Pennsylvania Departments of Education and Health.
The plan details action steps on how to social distance students and teachers and increase cleaning frequencies to mitigate the spread of the virus.
According to the plan, elementary school class sizes will be capped at 20 students, while middle and high school students will alternate in-person learning days on an “A/B” schedule. This will reduce the number of students in classrooms by 50 percent, officials said.
Officials said the district will provide distance learning in addition to face to face for students who are at a higher risk.
