RED BANK, NJ: The Red Bank Planning Board of Adjustment held their online meeting last night to discuss the site improvement plan for the Wells Fargo Bank, 303 Broad Street.
The bank submitted an application to update their outdoor lighting, landscaping and drainage.
In a February 23 meeting, the Redevelopment Agency publicized that the bank site is being evaluated as a new borough hall location. The agency’s commissioners approved a resolution for a concept plan to evaluate the relocation.
The bank’s representatives discussed that presently they did not meet the State’s lighting requirements for their ATM and how the planting of new trees will act as a lighting buffer for nearby neighbors.
Red Bank Resident Thea Jandizo whose home is directly behind the bank, took issue with the proposed new lighting said, “This is going to have significant impact (on my neighborhood),”
The trees being planned for the site are expected to grow 3 feet per year and, “The arbor vitae tree should shield the lights on the adjoining properties, you don’t have any buffer right now,” said board member Lou Dimento.
“I can’t see why those lights in the back lot need to be lit all night long,” said board member Dave Cassidy.
The board initially voted to both approve and deny the application, but there was no second.
“I don’t understand the reason why we’re at a standstill, if you don’t agree with the application, just vote no, instead of not saying anything,” said board member Art Murphy.
Board attorney Mike Leckstein said, “It's a problem with a very large property boarding on residential homes.”
The board approved the application with the condition that 6 of the back parking lot overhead lights be turned off after 8:00pm, allowing 18 lights to stay lit. Board members Barbara Boas and Juanita Lewis voted no.
