Mask conflict continues outside Middleton coffee shop - WKOW

MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- Helbachs Coffee in Middleton was the site of conflict again Saturday morning.

There was a protest and counter-protest over the use of masks. About a dozen people were outside the shop.

Earlier this week, a viral social media post showed a sign in the shop's window calling it a "mask free zone."

Health inspectors responded Wednesday and the shop called police.

Some continued the mask debate outside the shop on Saturday.

"The fact that so many Wisconsinites are using faith and other reasons not to wear a mask is utterly reckless and careless. And I'm here to take a stand and say we're not going to tolerate that," said Tulin Waters, who organized the protest.

But others showed up to fight for their right to not wear a mask.

"Our freedoms are slowly being taken away. We both have a medical exemption, but even if you don't have a medical exemption, you still have the right to choose," Taryn said about herself and her son.

Helbachs did not comment Saturday on the demonstrations.
