Wawa’s plans to construct another convenience store and gas station in a Falls Township are moving forward.
On Tuesday evening, the advisory Falls Township Planning Commission voted to support Wawa’s application for proposed minor subdivision of two acres on an existing property and application to rezone two acres from shopping center classification to highway commercial.
The popular regional company is seeking to split two acres from the 15.3-acre Fairless Hills Shopping Center at 500 Lincoln Highway in Falls Township to construct a new 5,500-square-foot convenience store and gas station at the corner of Arleans Avenue and Lincoln Highway. The Wawa would take the site of Arosso, A Touch of Sicily Italian-style restaurant, which LevittownNow.com confirmed will move to another spot in the shopping center.
A condition of the planning commission’s support was that Wawa would work to fix a front-yard setback issue that is part of their plan. Representatives for Wawa agreed to work on the issue.
Under the plan, Wawa would tear down the restaurant building and construct their own store and gas station. There would be a right in and right out entrance and exit along Lincoln Highway and connections to the shopping center and entrance and exit along Arleans Avenue.
A representative for Wawa listed variances that will be requested and said full plans for the site are still being created.
Dave Monterosso, who owns Arosso, A Touch of Sicily, said earlier this month that he wanted customers to know his eatery is not closing but just moving to another location in the shopping center to make way for the proposed Wawa.
Wawa next plans to bring their plans before the Falls Township Zoning Hearing Board.
Wawa already operates 10 locations within five miles of the Fairless Hills Shopping Center. About two miles away, Wawa is planning to construct its first drive-thru location.
