WELLS COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) - A Bluffton BBQ restaurant says it has been ordered closed by the health department in an apparent escalation of a dispute over coronavirus-related requirements.
Yergy's State Road BBQ posted on its Facebook page late Friday afternoon that it was visited by Wells County Health Department workers shortly after 4 p.m. and was shut down.
The restaurant said it would provide added information in a news release to follow.
The county health department closed at 4:30 p.m. and could not immediately be reached by ABC21.
Matt Yergler, who owns the restaurant, has been outspoken about his opposition to government-mandated rules regarding face coverings and has stated that he will not require his employees to wear a mask.
Yergler made his position clear at a recent Wells County Board of Health meeting, where he read a prepared statement opposing the mask requirement and left to applause from dozens of supporters.
Health department officials have warned that failing to enforce the mask rules could lead to action against a restaurant.
This is a developing story. Stay with ABC21 for updates.
